Maybe You’ll Like This

Second one today, whoo~! Don’t I feel productive. Do not use this an excuse not to check out the one below this though, it’s got a major from Rock Music in Bad Assery. Also don’t forget that tomorrow is the first Frusciante Friday! You’ll find out more about that tomorrow!

Anyway, onto this blog post’s song:

I’m kind of pissed because I was going to post the song that this blog was named for, “Little Bitty Pretty One,” but I couldn’t find the version I wanted on YouTube. Damn…

Well the version I was going to post was by a doo-wop group so I’ll go ahead and throw in a doo-wop song here to appease myself. The song in question is “Maybe,” the biggest hit from one of the first true girl groups The Chantels. This was not only a very good song, but also a very influential song for the time period considering it was an all girl group when those groups were first starting out. Rolling Stone ranks this song 195 out of 500 on one of their lists. Don’t take that as meaning I give validity to their lists (Bob Dylan a greater singer than Freddie Mercury: what the fuck?!), but saying that kind of gives validity to the song. To give you something to connect it too, this is the song that got The Shirelles (Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?) to start singing. They also got their name from them as they combined Shirley (Owens, their lead singer) and Chantels. This song was later covered by Janis Joplin and has been a fixture of Red Hot Chili Peppers concerts as John Frusciante plays it in between songs. I won’t delve into that too much as that’s what tomorrow is for, but you definitely need to check that out by clicking here.
